SHIP HULL CATHODIC PROTECTION

Hull Anodes for Commercial Vessels and Marine Structures

Aluminum and zinc hull anodes manufactured in weld-on, bolt-on and drawing-based configurations for commercial vessels, workboats and marine structures.

Hull-anode replacement should be based on vessel area, coating condition, current demand, alloy, net mass, mounting centers, drydock plan and class or owner requirements.

PRODUCT DEFINITION

Hull Anodes Matched to Vessel Zone and Mounting

Hull anodes are selected and positioned to supply galvanic current to immersed steel areas. Bow, stern, rudder, propeller, sea chest and general hull zones can have different current demand and installation constraints. Alloy, anode mass, profile, insert, centers and weld or bolt details must match the approved vessel plan.

Engineering Review Starts With Inputs

  • ✓ Protected asset and environment
  • ✓ Coating condition and exposed area
  • ✓ Current demand and design life
  • ✓ Alloy and electrochemical criteria
  • ✓ Geometry and mounting interface
  • ✓ Drawings, ITP and documentation

Project review

Confirm the Supply Basis Before Quotation

Hull, rudder, stern, propeller-area and sea-chest locations may require different models. The approved vessel CP arrangement defines quantity and position.

01

Vessel zone

Identify each hull or appendage position, coating condition and local access on the anode arrangement drawing.

02

Alloy and net mass

Specify aluminum or zinc alloy, sacrificial mass, profile and replacement or newbuild design basis.

03

Attachment footprint

Match weld-on feet, studs, bolt centres and insert details to the vessel plan and repair method.

04

Owner or class evidence

List drawing approval, chemistry, weight, dimensional and marking records required for release.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION

Parameters to Confirm Before Purchase

Use project-specific values. A generic catalogue value is not a substitute for the approved cathodic-protection calculation or purchase specification.

Vessel zoneHull, stern, rudder, propeller area, sea chest or defined marine-structure location.
AlloySpecified aluminum or zinc alloy with agreed chemistry and electrochemical acceptance.
Model and massAnode profile, net sacrificial-alloy weight, gross assembly weight and tolerance.
MountingWeld-on or bolt-on configuration, insert, stud centers, hole pattern and access.
Design basisCoated area, coating breakdown, current demand, seawater conditions and target life.
DocumentsDrawing approval, alloy record, weight and dimensional inspection, marking and class documents by scope.

MANUFACTURING AND QA

Control the Drawing, Alloy, Mass and Interface

Manufacturing review should confirm alloy charge control, mould and core arrangement, insert preparation, casting condition, dimensions, net mass, electrical continuity, marking and packing.

Inspection and document scope must be agreed in the purchase order. Any potential, capacity, efficiency or service-life statement should identify the governing test or calculation conditions.

Available Documentation by Order Scope

• Approved production drawing
• Alloy or chemistry record
• Net-weight inspection
• Dimensional inspection
• Insert or cable continuity
• Marking and packing record
• ITP and witness records
• Project-specific certificates

Inside HELE

Inside Our Manufacturing & Quality System

For hull anodes, HELE can align the casting model, alloy, net weight and weld-on or bolt-on insert with the approved vessel schedule. Inspection records, markings and packing can be organized by anode model and installation zone.

Alloy and casting

Confirm the approved alloy, core or insert, geometry and net sacrificial-alloy mass.

Electrical interface

Check continuity and the specified cable, weld or bolt attachment where the order requires it.

Inspection basis

Use the agreed methods and acceptance limits for chemistry, dimensions, weight and electrochemical evidence.

Order identification

Match markings, packing and release documents to the approved model and project schedule.

Final cathodic-protection design, installation and commissioning remain with the responsible project team unless expressly included in the contract.

FAQ

Technical and Procurement Questions

How is the correct anode type selected?+
Selection must start from the protected asset, electrolyte or soil, resistivity, temperature, coating condition, approved current demand, target life, governing specification and installation constraints.
Can HELE manufacture to a customer drawing?+
Yes. Manufacturability can be reviewed against the approved alloy, net mass, dimensions, insert or core, cable, mounting, tolerances, marking and inspection scope.
What performance values should be specified?+
State the required potential, capacity or efficiency together with the alloy standard, test method, electrolyte, temperature, duration and reference-electrode scale. Unqualified values are not directly comparable.
What determines service life?+
Service life depends on actual current demand, coating condition, environment, alloy capacity, utilization factor, net anode mass, anode resistance, placement and electrical continuity.
What quality documents are available?+
Depending on the purchase order, the document package can include approved drawings, alloy or chemistry records, weight and dimensional inspection, continuity checks, marking, packing and agreed ITP records.
What should I include in an RFQ?+
Provide vessel type, protected area and coating condition, approved current demand or anode schedule, preferred alloy, model and net weight, mounting centers or drawing, class requirements, drydock date, quantity and destination.
